Securing Housing Support
Part of the solution for chronic homelessness is securing safe, stable and affordable housing. In a city where there is a severe shortage of rent-geared-to-income housing, Shelter House works closely with Thunder Bay’s social service agencies to provide appropriate referrals, outreach, life skills, crisis intervention, and potential work opportunities to help residents secure a home.
Access To Health Care
With the support of partners such as the NorWest Community Health Centres, Community Care Access Centre, and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit street nursing program, Shelter House residents and clients can get health services that prevent and treat a broad range of health concerns. On-site services reduce the barriers presented by transportation and stigma that many people living in poverty face.
