Soup Kitchen

Do you have the heart of a Chef and want to share that love with others?!
Use your imaginations and let your creativity flow to create delicious, healthy options for the community. Go shopping in the food storage room where you can find almost anything you would need to make a feast for the masses. Volunteers have the run of the kitchen, complete with giant soup kettles, cook top, convection oven, walk in fridge and freezer and so much more!

Volunteer Drivers

Grab the keys; get in the van and go! Cruise the streets of Thunder Bay, visiting local grocers to pick up much needed food donations. This task is done 7 days a week, with the exception of major holidays, and is an important part of our meal preparations. We provide the van, the gas and route for driving; all you need is a Valid Class G license and the ability to be added to our insurance policy.

NEW Life Enrichment Volunteers

Do you have a passion for helping people and wish to make an impact in the lives of others? Do you want to help people channel their creative side or build up their own personal strength? This is a great way for students in health care program to get involved in a different way. It is a great way for people with talents in knitting, beading or other artistic abilities to keep them fresh and pass them along to others. A six month commitment is required in order to create a structure and longevity to the program.

Fundraising and Events

Shelter House Thunder Bay relies heavily on the generosity of our community to help us reach or annual fundraising goal of $500,000. You can help us reach this goal by getting involved through our fundraising events, creating your own or helping one of the many 3rd party events hosted on our behalf. There is numerous ways you can contribute by:

  • Sitting on a committee or working group to plan and deliver events
  • Volunteering the day of to help with activities and execution of the event

  • Creating an event of your own with friends, family or coworkers
  • Attending and supporting any 3rd party events hosted by other groups or organizations
